It was with deep sadness that I read yesterday where we lost another National Guard Warrior in the war on terror. Utah Army National Guard Major Brent Taylor was killed on November 3rd in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, in what was described as an “insider attack”. The attacker was a member of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces, who was immediately killed by other Afghan forces. Another U.S. service member was injured in the attack. The wounded service member was undergoing medical treatment and was in stable condition. Brent Taylor was a father of seven and had served in the Utah Army National Guard since 2013. A true patriot, he resigned as the Mayor of Northern Ogden Utah to deploy with his unit. This simple quote defines him best, “Serving as the Mayor of North Ogden city has been one of the greatest honors of my life and the highlight of my civilian professional career,” Taylor wrote. “Service is really what leadership is all about.” Let us all keep his wife Jennie and their seven children in our prayers. May God watch over and bless them. Our nation lost another hero, may he rest in peace.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Taylor’s family. Late Saturday it had reached more than $19,000 toward a $250,000 goal.
